Scraped Knees, Soft Hearts
There is something incredibly special about raising boys.
Beneath the boundless energy, the mess, the noise, and the endless ‘whys’, are hearts that love so deeply. Boys feel the world in ways that often go unnoticed, or in ways that are purposefully pushed to the side.
But boyhood is a beautiful contradiction. It is wild and gentle, fearless and tender. It is everything. It is climbing trees with scraped knees one minute, then quietly placing a flower in your hand because they thought you’d like it.
Being a boy mum means carrying the immense privilege of shaping the kind of man your son will one day be.
Every cuddle, every bedtime story, every whispered “I’ve got you,” every lesson in kindness, respect, and compassion becomes another brick in the foundation of his heart. Long before the world knows the man he will be, you know the little boy he is. And you will never forget this little boy. The boy who taught you love doesn’t always need words.
One day, the dinosaurs and cars will be packed away. The house that once echoed with noise, adventures and laughs will grow quieter. But if you’ve loved him well, pieces of you will travel with him wherever he goes. In the way he comforts someone who’s hurting. In the way he protects the people he loves. In the way he one day holds his own child.
To be a boy mum is to witness the extraordinary gift of boyhood. It is an honour.
